I am so deeply saddened to hear about Joanne. We met when I was a fairly new teacher, and she visited my classroom in Portland many times over the years.
Joanne was so dear to me. She was a source of encouragement and inspiration, and I considered her a mentor. (My students loved her as well and always called her, “Grandma Joanne.”)
